IRFBE participation on a Fellowship Exchange hosted by Food Forward SA
Food banks play a crucial role in addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable populations. Recently, Food Forward South Africa hosted a fellowship exchange that brought together food banks from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Mozambique, Ghana, and more. Among the participants was the esteemed It Rains Food Bank from Ethiopia, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those in need.
During the fellowship exchange, participants had the opportunity to gain insights and access to various key functional areas within food banks. These included advocacy, beneficiary organization management, human resources, information and communications technology, finance, food sourcing, fund development, staff management, and operations, covering warehousing, logistics, and food safety.
For It Rains Food Bank, this experience was invaluable in enhancing its operational capacity and learning best practices from industry peers. The exchange provided a platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and building lasting connections with fellow food bank professionals across Africa.
As It Rains Food Bank continues its mission to serve the community and combat food insecurity, the fellowship exchange has equipped them with new strategies and tools to further their impact. By leveraging the expertise gained during this transformative experience, It Rains Food Bank is poised to make an even greater difference in the lives of those they serve.
The IRFBE team would like to thank The Global Food Banking Network (GFN) for the grant that made Project Healing Hearts possible.
