It Rains Food Bank of Ethiopia (IRFBE) was the first food bank in Ethiopia established in 2018 with a mission to expand food banking, alleviate hunger and enhance food security. ‘It Rains’ is the good news people like to hear from someone who returned from a trip to rural Ethiopia. If it rained, it meant surplus production and no food shortage.

Efficient mobilization of resources is critical to ensure no one goes hungry. IRFBE leverages innovations to tackle food waste and match food donations with recipients. We believe community-based initiatives make a real difference. All IRFBE-led projects focus on vulnerable and underserved segments of the community. IRFBE serves culturally appropriate food and engages in capacity building activities for sustainable solutions to food insecurity.
